February 2008

Hello Neighbors,

As the newly elected President of NHPA, it is my pleasure to welcome back old members and new to this extraordinary organization. NHPA began out of a need created by a disaster in our community.  The 1991 Oakland Firestorm wasn't the first disaster in this area, but it was one of the worst.  It destroyed hundreds of  homes,  many lives were lost and/or forever changed, and personal property including family heirlooms were all but a memory.

What made the aftermath of the disaster extraordinary was the determination of people to pull together to help one another through the task of rebuilding both their homes and lives. Since 1991, NHPA has developed into a viable, visible, and vocal voice for the concerns of our community. It deals with Design Review, Vegetation Management, Parks/Trails/Creeks, Fourth Bore, Oakland City, Drainage, Safety & Security (NCPC) and more.  Committees are comprised of your neighbors – neighbors who have found a need and filled it.

During 2008, NHPA will continue its efforts of the past as it works to improve the Communication Systems, offer Emergency Preparedness Training (CORE) and CPR classes, plan social events, and expand membership.  NHPA offers an opportunity to get involved and a place to present and discuss ideas and issues that are important to you.  It was created by the community and it remains for and about the community.

We welcome you to Steering Committee Meetings, (2nd Monday of every month, 7:30 PM at Hiller Highlands Country Club). We invite you to join NHPA and to receive a copy of the quarterly Newsletter. Mail your dues ($40/annual per household) to:
