It has been an honor to serve Oakland as the President of the City Council for the past seven years and as a Member of the City Council for over a decade. The person you elect as Oakland’s next Mayor must have the ability and the willingness to do the hard work necessary to improve our city. I will work day and night for you with a focus on four priorities:
- Schools: I am committed to improving every school in Oakland. No excuses. An excellent education will provide all of our city’s children will the hope and opportunity to live their dreams. One of my proudest accomplishments is the construction of the Cesar Chavez Learning Center with two new public schools and lush soccer fields to reduce overcrowding for our children and teachers. To demonstrate my commitment and to see the challenges firsthand, I am visiting every school in Oakland.
- Safety: I will reduce crime in our neighborhoods. From car theft to robberies to more serious problems crime diminishes our quality of life and tarnishes the image of our great city. No city leader has more experience fighting crime -- whether it’s shutting down liquor stores and drug houses or expanding community policing. As Mayor, I’ll get more police on our streets. I’ll make sure our city’s programs are effective at creating positive alternatives for our young people.
- Services: I will ensure that our city government works for you and excels at delivering basic services: clean parks, repaved streets, vibrant libraries, and safe neighborhoods. You pay a lot in taxes and you deserve results in your neighborhood.
- Better Housing, More Jobs, More Retail: I will continue the economic revitalization efforts in our neighborhoods and downtown. I have a proven track record of getting projects done including the successful Fruitvale Transit Village and new affordable housing for our seniors. I will attract high-quality retail to our city so that we can always shop and spend our money right here in Oakland.
I am proud to have been endorsed by Mayors Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom as well as by Oakland’s firefighters, police officers, and neighborhood leaders from all parts of our city. For more information about my vision for Oakland’s future, I encourage you to call my main campaign office at 893-2006,
