From Peter Kranz
I was awakened this morning at 12:15 AM to the sound of fireworks, I looked out the window and in about 30 seconds I saw flames coming from the tank above Marlborough. I called the fire department, the Aubrey's (who live right next to the tank) and drove down to the firehouse and met them going up (fast response, about 120 seconds from my call). By the time they were on site, about ? of the grass/brush around the tank was on fire, but they quickly knocked it down. You'll be happy to know they had 2 trucks on scene, and had 3 more trucks rolling into the area in about 4 minutes.
From Russ Aubry
Fire at Gwinn water tower, intersection Grizzly and Marlborough. Peter Kranz heard fire works about 12:35, called 911 and then Aubry's. Russ turned on FRS channel 7-11 and reached Gwinn tower before fire man arrived. Fire was apparently caused by roman rocket type fire works set off from the pad at the water tower.
Fire was under control within 10 minutes. Total area involved was about 30' x 100'. Fire trucks were on site from over 6 stations and will patrol all night. I took several pictures of the fire. From Victor Gold I was up and working and I certainly heard the rockets go whizzing around and pop off. However, I didn't see the resulting fire from where I was. I was just going out the door to get a closer look when I heard the fire engines go by.
